Ancient philosophy of chi energy

What is Chi energy?

Chi energy(qi) is an ancient Chinese term, which can be roughly translated as energy and represents the cosmic or the vital source of energy that Taoists see as an organic being full of life. Practices like Qigong and Feng Shui include a variety of techniques that use "chi" to promote well-bring and harmony in all areas of human life.

Energy flows freely through the human body when it is healthy, but because of stres, Chi gets blocked, causing physical ailments and energy blockages in the meridians, nadis and chakras

. There is a longstanding tradition, in ancient China, to learn how to generate, conserve, and channel chi energy in order to gain health and longevity. Early practitioners associated chi energy with water, a primordial element.

What is Yin and Yang?

yin yang

The concept of Yin and Yang came from the observation of nature and the environment. Initially, Yin referred to the dark side of a slope while Yang referred to the sunny side. Later, this thinking was used in understanding other occurrences, which occurred in pairs and had complementary and opposing characteristics in nature.

Yin and Yang is, essentially, a sum of opposites. That is why they try to find balance in everything, as a way to make the opposites complementary.

While Yin was considered to be the female principle, and was associated with the earth; Yang was the male principle, represented by the sky. Just as Reiki sourcebook states the imbalances within our mental, emotional or physical body cause physical ailments, the ancient Chinese believed that an imbalance of Yin and Yang can cause disease and chaos in the human body.

What the ancient Chinese philosophy strived to gain was to restore the balance of Yin and Yang in the body in order to attain health and longevity. Whenever the chi energy is blocked within the body, an imbalance of Yin and Yang occurs.

The human body: an energy network

According to the ancient Chinese and reiki secrets, chi flows through 12 meridians or pathways in the body, each closely related to an internal organ. The human body is a network of channels and meridians that carries the energy to the different parts of the body. The amazing network of channels and meridians has a regulatory role into the flow of both Yin and Yang for a balanced health.

The connection with water, as a primordial element, was one of the Chinese beliefs. The inner network that carries the "chi" to different areas of the body is compared to water running underground with points being described like eddies, swirls, and vortices in the current.

There is a connection between the quantity of chi energy in the body and the quality of one's mental and physical life. Recent new age healing and medical studies say that when the energy level of a cell is too low, it becomes unhealthy and can even become cancerous, so chi energy level must be restored, balanced. This is, in fact, the similarity between such an ancient philosophy and current Western medicine.
